Abstract It is widely accepted that the career belongs to the individual not to the company and that, therefore, he or she should be in charge of it. To what extent, however, is this truth relevant? Is it possible for everyone to plan their own careers and follow their plans without any help? Or is it a privilege of a few who, very early, set their objectives and pursue them until they have achieved the desired outcomes? The objective of this paper is to analyze Savioli's statement, which claims that the career is the responsibility of the individual, from the point of view of other authors who don't disagree with such opinion but do recognize that planning one's career without any help from the company is not always possible. Key words: career, planning , development.Metrics
