Abstract

The article presents an analysis of the reality of the Latin American Episcopal Council (CELAM) and its role in the continent. In holding the III Conference in Puebla (1979), it is necessary to observe its historical aspect from the preferential option for the poor. The reality of Puebla and the Latin American Church are facts of great transformations such as: Basic Ecclesial Communities (CEB) and Liberation Theology (TdL); that brought to the reality of the people the faith professed in the temples. The path of structure and proposal is an authentic Church, open to the close attention to social realities, taking the preferential option for the poor and fighting hard as injustices. The Puebla Document (DP) is a pastoral that became a member of the Latin American Church fulfilling the goal of getting involved in particular affairs of the continent. With this proposal to change the historical character, Puebla's ethical option and the reality of the poor of the time and context presented. In fact, with an authentic option for the poor, we have the possibility of paying or doing, opening the fronts of denunciation and proclaiming the Gospel to the poor and valuing their actions.
