FROM MEDELLÍN TO PUEBLA: AN OUTGOING CHURCH

Abstract

It is not possible to write about Medellin and Puebla without making a mandatory stop at the Second Vatican Ecumenical Council (Rome, 1962-1965). Vatican II was the largest event in the history of the Roman Apostolic Catholic Church in the twentieth century. The Liberation Theology that is born as genuine Latin American theology is based on the experience of the Exodus and the project of life proposed by Jesus of Nazareth and his radical Option for the Poor; however, it has in the intuitions of the Second Vatican Council its structuring element. The greatest certainty of the Medellin Document is that the liberation of the Risen One is the foundation of education, of all kinds of education, during the process of building a human being. The prophecy so clear and evident in Medellin was hidden in Puebla. Prophets are those who shout with their eyes. A close reading of the Puebla Document invites us to bring out the prophecy. This article proposes to question the Conferences of Medellin and Puebla regarding the proposal of Church in Exit of Pope Francisco; however, it does not close the debate.
