Socrates, intellectual projection for Bakhtin and Gadamer

Abstract

In this article, two intellectual portraits of the famous Athenian philosopher Socrates are presented, related to thinkers of the contemporary world. The first, by Bakhtin, presents the philosopher as a fundamental figure for the future development of the history of the novel, highlighting his characteristics, valuing dialogue and popular comic culture, the importance of his dialogues for the evolution of discursive genres and, above all, , the prosaic representation of his person. The second intellectual portrait takes Socrates' miaieutic method to, from there, describe his irony, whose appreciation is recognized by Gadamer, who shares it as a dialogic method of searching for truth. The two parts of the text, in a certain sense, are in connection, because they start from common characteristics of Socrates to describe the intellectual relevance of his philosophy and because notes are made for the possibility of interpreting biblical texts through the proposed theories, on the other hand, the two parts of the article are separated because while the first relates Bakhtin with Socrates, the second relates Gadamer with the same philosopher.
