An analysis of the contributions of the Declaration Nostra Aetate

Abstract

The present work aims to analyze the contributions of the Declaration Nostra Aetate to interreligious dialogue. The declaration is a significant milestone, as it allows humanity to build dialogue and religious cooperation. By opening up to interreligious dialogue, it recognizes religious traditions as a path and a response to the questions that afflict the human heart. The document proposes a new way of understanding the experience of God, with dialogue being a consequence of Revelation inserted in history. This conciliar perspective, based on relationships of otherness, promotes peace and understanding among peoples in the pursuit of truth and, by fostering a dialogical stance, enriches faith and strengthens religious identity in order to combat fundamentalism. From this perspective, there is the promotion of interreligious dialogue and the intention to build bridges of understanding, which are essential for coexistence and spiritual enrichment. To achieve this objective, the context of the Second Vatican Council will be addressed as the status spiritualis of the Declaration Nostra Aetate, its respective content, and the historical and theological contributions of this relevant document from the conciliar event.
