Contemplation and action
analysis of the concepts of prayer and Church in the book “Crer ou não crer”

Based on the Discourse Analysis applied to the book "Crer eu não crer" by Fábio de Melo and Leandro Karnal, this article deepens the theme "prayer" dealt with in Part 6. The choice of the theme "prayer" arises from the fact that this theme is not explicitly in the titles of the chapters, but from the evaluation of the words most used in each chapter. As the book is a transcript of the conversation between the two authors, they do not delve into the subject. This article shows that the theme "prayer" indicates the profound divergence of the Catholic Church's way of thinking for Fábio de Melo and Leandro Karnal. Leandro Karnal's vision is close to traditionalism while Fábio de Melo approaches the vision of the Second Vatican Council and Liberation Theology. Leandro Karnal presents an institutionalized Church focused on contemplation against a Church at the service and action of Fábio de Melo. As this vision of Fábio de Melo is not yet general, the article points to the need to revitalize Liberation Theology.
