Editors: João Manuel Duque, Victoria dos Santos Bustamante
Deadline: Dez. 31 2025
Digital transformation is undoubtedly one of the most prominent features of contemporary culture, cutting across all its configurations without exception. Given that the various articulations of religious experience are inevitably linked to the respective cultural forms in which they occur, digital transformation is expected to impact the reconfiguration of religion significantly. This reconfiguration occurs at various levels, from the more individual and psychic profile of experiences to their collective configurations, particularly rituals. For example, digital reconfigurations of the religious can be identified in terms of textuality, authority, rituality, eschatological imagery and its impact on everyday life, as well as the habitual practices of believers. At the same time, there are considerable differences in how religious traditions interpret digital environments, negotiating different strategies regarding online religious practices and experiences.
