This article discusses the extent to which theoretical and methodological contributions of Science of Religion can effectively serve to create a reflexive religious education, committed to the principles of a democratic, pluralistic and secular State. In Brazil, the Science of Religion is a young area of knowledge. It is a Brazilian peculiarity that its disciplinary identity was formed both under the influence of the Theology and in reference to historical materialism. The same is true for religious education whose curriculum guides the teaching in public schools on a national basis. Another peculiarity of religious education consists of the public demand towards the discipline. In this context, the article contemplates on the possible relations between Science of Religion, Religious Teaching and Phenomenology of Religion.Downloads
