In this article, we propose a theoretical reflection about the upcoming and spreading of narcissistic culture and its incorporation into religious practices contemporarily. Having as methodology the bibliographical research, we will observe how the old mythological narratives that warned the threat of hybris and played a pedagogical role on the maintenance of life in society, they have left space to narratives that deify the self and stimulate the egocentric behavior on the contemporary society, led by performance and show. At last, we will analyses how the protestant ethics, in other times centered on the selfless and altruism, has embodied this new culture-changing its place of acting to attend this rising demand of performance and therapy, typical in narcissistic culture.
