Our article exposes the relation between modernity and religion through the movies Parasite (2019) and The platform (2019). Its main objective is to demonstrate how these movies retreat this relation. We hypothesize that the relation is constituted by the modern critics of religion and its return. The article is structured in the following order: 1) an analysis of the religion, in a modern perspective, in images, ideas, and structure in each movie; 2) an approximation of their narratives to the modern critics of religion and its return. We intend that this article contributes to the study of religion and cinema (and pop culture in general) and the research field of the relation between religion and contemporaneity.
