Abstract

The laughter, from a scientific perspective, was the object of interest of theorists from different areas and, currently, it is configured as an almost indispensable factor for coexistence. Among its theorists, the Russian philosopher Mikahail Bakhtin stands out, who understood laughter from the carnival show, exemplified in the Middle Ages and Renaissance popular culture. From this perspective, carnival – as a condition for the existence of laughter – takes on different nuances involving festivities, language, and literary works. In a bibliographical approach, the present work relates Bakhtin’s theorization with documentary research on humor undertaken in all of Osho’s books available at OSHO Online Library. One of the expressions of Bakhtian carnivalization can be identified, for example, in the discursive proposal and in the religious content promulgated by Osho, who not only applies a humorous format to his religious discourse but proclaims humor as the essential expression of the sacred.
