Abstract

This article examines the relationship between the deaf community and music, focusing on using Brazilian Sign Language (Libras) in religious celebrations within a Pentecostal church in Canoas, RS. Given the central role of praise in Christian worship, the study investigates how incorporating Libras influences the experiences of deaf individuals during these celebrations, emphasizing the significance of sensory knowledge. Data were collected through interviews with ten members of the deaf community, exploring their perceptions and experiences. The findings reveal that music, adapted through Libras, plays a crucial role in fostering social and religious inclusion, enabling deaf individuals to engage more fully in church activities. This research contributes to the broader understanding of accessibility in religious practices and underscores the importance of sensory and inclusive adaptations to better integrate the deaf community into contemporary religious contexts.
