First encounter of Afro-Brazilian Collections Network: Decolonizing museums, recognizing black-African contributions

This report aims to report presentations made during the 1st Meeting of Afro-Brazilian Collections Network, through a synthetizing the themes discussed and characteristics of the audience present at the event. The meeting was an open event conceived and organized by the management team of the Afro Brasil Museum in partnership with other museums in Brazil. The event took place on September 26, 2024, at the Afro Brasil Museum in Ibirapuera Park, São Paulo, and sought to create a space for dialogues about how to transform Afro-Brazilian collections, established under colonial logics, into vehicles for recognizing the Afro-Brazilian contribution to Brazilian culture.
