Abstract

Between the end of World War II and the early 1960s, the Brazilian economy experiencedan intense process of industrialization, accompanied by recurrent crises in thebalance of payments. To confront these external bottlenecks and to promoteindustrial growth, the Brazilian state has implemented several foreign tradepolicies with clear bias in favor of the industrial sector. The article seeks,through the examination of the terms of trade and international capital flowsin the period, analyze the role of policies for the external sector of theeconomy in promoting industrialization
