Who is in charge? Power between the hegemonic economic groups in Brazil

We reflected on Brazilian corporate control, taking into account the shareholding relationships of the top 200 holdings. Shareholder control was modeled using Social Network Analysis, employing out-degree, weighted out-degree and betweenness centrality. The hegemonic centers are the energy sector, finance and private healthcare. Only 20% of the companies hold 80% of the share control, with 1% holding almost a quarter. Of these 62 companies, 29 belong to the three mentioned sectors, with 3 being state-owned, 9 foreign and 17 private. Eletrobrás holds the largest share flow control. The three partners of 3G Capital are the most powerful individuals. Considering direct share control, Rede D'Or is the principal entity. The national economy is under the control of a very few, highly influential private clusters, both national and foreign, surpassing the influence of the state capacity.
