Abstract

This article presents a proposal for a new paradigms of user experience (ux) based on the logic and language of games based on a workshop at the international conference ux Homegrown at Auckland, New Zealand. Participants were encouraged to create instructions for a restaurant localization app that tries to avoid the classical paradigm, searching for innovation by using five games. As a baseline to guide the workshop, the authors offered the following games as conceptual and structural references: Alice: Madness Returns, The Unfinished Swan, The Cave, Limbo, and Journey. Each game was to be used as conceptual and aesthetical framework of reference and as a model to the construction of the proposed app mechanics. After receiving the proposal to use the five games as models, the participants were encouraged to create new functionalities to the app in which they were working. Theoretical frameworks of this study are user experience theories, game theories, semiotics, and linguistics.
