Abstract

The term exelitic is a neologism created according to the terminology of philosopher and semiotician Charles Sanders Peirce (1839-1914). It signifies a new meaning for the science of evolution, from the modern Greek εξέλιξη [ekslyksee], which means evolution. Based on this neologism, this article aims to analyze Peirce's work in some of its main facets, notably in its cosmology, positioning it as a precursor of some of the most advanced contemporary debates in biosemiotics, physiosemiotics and quantum theory. The exilic conception of evolution present in Peirce leads the investigations about cosmogenesis towards a cosmosemiosis. These paths would not be possible if we did not resort to the potentialities that metaphysics presents to science. Therefore, this article aims to demonstrate the impossibility of reducing metaphysics to epistemology or the mere replacement of metaphysics by epistemology
