The Other Side of the Mirror: Intertextual Networks in “Sans Soleil”

Abstract

The intertextuality is the encounter between texts, the relationship of an artist with his work and the time and space which he operates. We propose to think about the associations the essay-film “Sans Soleil” (1982), by Chris Marker, establish with other films of the director and other artist’s production, especially Hitchcock and Tarkovski. We realize “Sans Soleil” like “work in process”, because the film is about the realization of itself, showing in his body the marks and traces left by the author during creation. Our purpose here is to draw an outline of the Marker’s poetic project through intertextual relationships woven by the film.
