The objective of this work is to study and identify a contemporary formative novel, which preserves the classical form of the Bildungsroman. Recognized as a typical narrative of German literature, the formative novel has modified and expanded its basic characteristics. No longer linked only to the eurocentrix context, this genre has extended to american, women’s and african literature. In this way, na analysis of the novel Niketche: Uma história de poligamia, by the Mozambican writer Paulina Chiziane, was carried out, following the criteria of the authors Moretti (2020), Lukács (2000) and Brandstrom (2021) to identify the novel under study as being a true Romance of Formation.
