Abstract

This paper presents a review of Outono de carne estranha, by Airton Souza, analyzing the work from a critical perspective. The novel explores the tensions between faith, desire and survival in the brutal context of Serra Pelada during the gold rush of the 1980s. The review highlights Souza's poetic narrative, which combines lyricism and social criticism by portraying the gold mine as a space of misery, violence and authoritarianism. In addition, it highlights the novel's ability to combine emotional density with the critical reconstruction of a remarkable moment in Brazilian history.
