Benjamím Mendonza y Amor, um sombrio pintor boliviano,tenta reconhecimento público por meio de sua arte surrealistaentre os anos de 1950 e 1960. Após breve prestígio, cai napenúria e nas malhas da crítica. Deixa a América Latina embusca de nova sorte, mas acaba preso nas Filipinas em novembrode 1970, após atentar contra a vida do Papa Paulo VI.Ganha a prisão como destino, uma breve notoriedade internacional,e o título de magnicida.

Abstract

Benjamím Mendonza y Amor, a bleak bolivian painter, triespublic recognition through his surrealist art between the 1950’sand the 1960’s. After a brief prestige, he fell into penury and hewas caught by the net of criticism. (en, he left Latin Americalooking for a new fortune but, in the end, he was arrested inPhilippines in november of 1970 after attempting against PopePaul VI´s life. He won the prison as destination, a brief internationalrecognition and the title of magnicide.
