A Recepção do Evolucionismo na Cultura Política do SPD

Este artigo investiga a relação entre a teoria da evolução e a cultura política da social-democracia alemã (SPD) no final do século XIX. A partir de um comentário sobre as atividades políticas e culturais do partido - em especial o Primeiro de Maio de 1897 -, busca-se desdobrar alguns testemunhos que atestam essa relação, para então refletir sobre o significado da articulação entre socialismo e evolucionismo, bem como sobre a aplicação da ideia de evolução/desenvolvimento (Entwicklung) na formulação de conceitos políticos e teóricos. Por fim, são apresentados indícios de que, a despeito de certa crença corrente, essa relação, que ganha centralidade no século XIX, perde força na virada para o século XX.
