Abstract

The island of Okinawa, Japan, is one of the five places with the highest longevity and health rates. This is due to factors
such as a low-calorie diet, nutrient-rich foods, and calorie restriction-mimicking properties, as well as a unique cultural relationship with food. The social aspect of meals also contributes to health. This integrative review explores these factors and future challenges, considering the increasing influence of Western culture on the island.
