This paper discusses expatriation process as an organizational learning strategy and a global executive career developmental plan. This is an exploratory research, underlined by a quantitative analysis. Data were supported by questionnaires applied to expatriate individuals, and a non-participant observation in a few cases. The results reveal ambiguities in terms of the value perceived to the expatriate career. There is an unbalanced relationship between benefits and sacrifice perceptions. It was also observed that married expatriates see the process as career advancement meanwhile singles see expatriation as a challenge. Family´s presence is important to the cultural adaptation and stress management.Downloads
