Abstract

The goal of the present study was to analyze the different expectations in terms of career preferences of young university students, members of the so-called Generation Y. This work was done through a descriptive and field research, transversal and correlational, which analyzed 220 undergrad students, graduating from a Business school in the city of São Paulo – 80 of them in 2009 and 140 in 2011. The results helped in identifying the option for “lifestyle” as the main career anchor, with high statistical incidence on female audience and, on the other hand, “general management” as the main anchor of the male audience, in addition to the choice of “autonomy and independence”, as a second anchor of both genres, which confirm the trend pointed out by leading researchers of the Y Generation.
