The aim of this paper is to discuss the construction of a new paradigm for Adult Education by presenting the historical and theoretical construction of the concepts related to Lifelong Learning. This matter has been a desire of organized society for forty years, that emerged as a response to the adaptation need of the adult learner in the face of changes that has been occurring at an increasing rate. For such, we conducted a comprehensive review of the documents released by the national sponsors of this concept - OECD, UNESCO - relating them to researchers in the field of Adult Education that addressed the issue as relevant to understand the new paradigm for that area. As a result, we find that Lifelong Learning, although it represents a concept of fundamental importance to the development challenges faced by professional adults in the 21th century, it has not been implemented effectively, in addition to highlighting the importance of the contribution of conceptual research in Psychology related to Adult Education.Metrics
