Abstract

Objective: This study aims to analyze waste in the production process of a machining company, applying the principles of Lean Manufacturing to identify and eliminate inefficiencies.
Problem Diagnosis:The investigation focuses on the challenges faced by the company, particularly concerning parts ABC1 and ABC2, which exhibit issues such as overproduction, excessive inventory, and prolonged waiting times.
Methodology/Approach: A case study methodology was adopted, utilizing the Genchi Genbutsu concept to conduct direct visits to the shop floor, collecting data on workflow and identifying waste at each stage of the production process.
Results: The results indicated the presence of various wastes, including losses due to inefficient transportation, unnecessary inventory, waiting times between operations, excessive material handling, overproduction, and the need for rework on parts. The application of the Heijunka concept was proposed to level production and optimize workflow.
Contributions: Significant contributions include the practical application of Lean Manufacturing principles in a real context, demonstrating their effectiveness in identifying and eliminating specific wastes within the machining industry, while offering valuable insights for companies seeking to enhance their operational efficiency and competitiveness.
Keywords: Lean Manufacturing, Waste, Competitiveness.
