Charles Morris and Rudolf Carnap’s Pragmatism

Abstract

This paper presents the approximation between Rudolf Carnap and North-American Pragmatism, as done by Charles Morris in the text “Pragmatism and Logical Empiricism”. Following Morris, we trace the influences of Pragmatism over Carnap’s proposals in “Testability and Meaning”, emphasizing the point of view known as Scientific Empiricism, put forward by Carnap and Morris. Furthermore, we seek to call attention to Carnap’s relation with the North-American tradition, which seems to be rather important to the understanding of Carnap’s later works.
