Abstract

In this essay we will be trying to show how realism and idealism are conciliated, within the work of the North American philosopher Charles S. PEIRCE (1839-1914), under the lights of his metaphysical construction. This point that we consider essential to the understanding of a set of other related doctrines has been misunderstood or formulated in an equivocal 'way by a great amount of commentators, 'whose approach of the question does not take into account the Peircean genealogy of metaphysical theories, and, by a Cartesian or anthropocentric point of view, they have tried, unsuccessfully, to conciliate the simultaneity of realism-idealism in Peirce's thought.
