Through an analisis of the use of the tarskian truth notion in the context of the semantical approach, we'll argue that it is unnecessary just as insufficient. It is unnecessary because whithin this approach its role is only operational, such that it can be accomplished by other truth notions also of operational character. On the other hand its insufficiency is due to the fact that other truth conceptions need to be articulated in order to satisfy the purposes of the several members of the semanticist family, like constructive empiricism and quasi-realism. Traditionally, this other conceptions are defined throughout the tarskian truth notion, but they also can be defined through alternative truth notions.
