Introduction: RESET is a simple and non-invasive method of relaxing mandible muscles constituted by 15 steps of energizing some parts of the body. It is indicated to subjects with temporomandibular disorders. Purpose: To verify the effects of RESET in the stomatognatic structures and functions, in the signs and symptoms of temporomandibular dysfunction and in the patient’s level of pain. To check if results are kept without applying the technique continuously. Methods: It consists on an exploratory study where four individuals with tempormandibular dysfunction diagnosis were studied. The participants were submitted to anamnesis, clinical Speech-language pathology examination and pain evaluation. hey received 10 RESET applications. After five sessions, they filled a form with their opinion. After the treatment they were submitted to a reevaluation. After 60 days, they were submitted to a reevaluation, to verify the maintenance of the results. The results of each participant were described. Results: a higher result in maximum mouth opening and mandible protrusion; reductions of articulation noises; adjustment of masseter’s tension and pain; reduction of a deleterious oral habit and global relaxation feeling were positive results reported by the participants. Some results were kept for 60 days without continuous application of the technique, such as higher result in maximum mouth opening, reduction of pain and difficulties caused by the pain and global relaxation feeling. Conclusions: There are indications that RESET is a complementary technique efficient in temporomandibular dysfunction treatment and it could be used complementarily to Speech and Language Pathology’s treatment.Downloads
