Abstract

Introduction: Writing is an important tool and material for the construction of knowledge and may play an important role in the process of speech development on hearing impaired children and youngster. Based on a case study, the aim of this article is to discuss the process of text construction by a hearing impaired youngster. Material and method: There were considered for this study the information obtained by the case history, as well as the registrations from the therapy process and the material developed on the therapy process realized on the Audiology Educational Service at DERDIC. In the clinic method for the construction of the discursive memory, there were valorized the facts or occurrences spontaneosly mentioned on therapy or those related to the reading of texts, and also comments and interpretations that could contribute to the process of writing a book. Results: From this case it was observed that the discursive practice: aroused curiosity about the expressive means of writing; conceded structure to the conversations produced; aroused pleasure on reading and producing texts as well as on oral dialogue; drove to a more creative and participative relation with knowledge; developed higher discursive autonomy. Conclusion: Taking this study as a basis we concluded that a structured clinical practice for the social use of writing can speed up the general process of speech development.
