Tradition as a problem in communication studies: reflections from Williams and Ricoeur
Keywords:
tradition, Raymond Williams, Paul Ricoeur.Abstract
In this study, we aim to reflect on tradition as a problem to be faced in Communication studies. Based on a resumption of two important thoughts on tradition, in the works of Raymond Williams and Paul Ricoeur, we describe the interpretative dimension and complex temporal movements present in tradition (unpleasant repetition of “tradition”. A resumption of these authors, affiliations and quite diverse theoretical concerns are not aimed at seeking connections between them, but to show how both, in their way, understand tradition as something unstable, immersed in epistemic, ethical and ideological conflicts, and in the dispute on the past, the configuration of the present and projection of the future.
