Abstract

Facing the upgrowing interest about the political dimension of documentary cinema, this article compares two ways of apprehension and points out some theoretical and methodological choices there implied. We emphasize the prevalence of representation as an analytical operator in the studies about the theme and practice the proposition of an alternative regard, which is based on the concept of distribution of the sensible as a central reference and it takes into account the ways of production – or invention - themselves of the documentary politics. By the end, we present, for heuristic purposes, a brief analysis of Juízo (Maria Augusta Ramos, 2007), attempting to investigate the singular possibilities of political invention in the movie.
