Abstract

O olhar e a cena, livro de Ismail Xavier, analisa o percurso da cena melodramática, rastreando sua evolução desde a sua origem até o cinema, onde encontrou um veí­culo por excelência para o seu pleno desdobramento. Destacando, em particular, as obras de Griffith e Hitchcock, e a cena cinematográfica herdada de Nelson Rodrigues, Xavier analisa esse desdobramento í luz de sua articulação constante com as possibilidades que o cinema abriu ao desejo de olhar.
