Abstract

The author presents the so-called Ciclo do Recife (Recife Cycle), a period generally comprised between 1923 and 1931, which was marked by intensive cinematographic production in the city of Recife. His critical analysis considers this production as subaltern to foreign production, notably American and European, particularly the French, because it originated from peripheral capitalism.
