Complex serial drama aesthetic and the emergence of anti-heroine
stylistic analysis of Brotherhood (Netflix, 2019)
Keywords:

In this text, we propose a stylistic analysis of the series Brotherhood (Netflix, 2019-) to highlight important innovations in the national scenario of serial fiction production for streaming platforms, based on two objectives. In the first one, we sought to establish the series as a kind of subgenre known as complex serial drama, based on the characteristics presented by Dunleavy (2009). In the second objective, we explored the protagonist’s trajectory to the position of leader of the Brotherhood. The adoption of second-degree style, revealed that complex series require greater attention and engagement fromthe viewers, as well as allowing the figuration of the protagonist’s subjectivity as a web of feelings that stitched together the highs and lows of her journey until the complete transition that transforms her into the anti-heroine of the story.
