Authenticity on digital platforms
comparative study between Bereal and Tiktok

The objective is to identify how the concept of authenticity emerges on the platforms BeReal and TikTok. Authenticity has been referred to as a positive value on social media platforms. Considering that digital platforms and the phenomena observed within them are mutually constituted—shaping social imaginaries around the practices they host—the question arises: how is authenticity configured on BeReal and TikTok? This comparative study is characterized as exploratory, bibliographic, and documentary research, with a qualitative approach. The analytical corpus includes institutional discourses and platform affordances of TikTok and BeReal regarding authenticity. The study concludes that, on BeReal, authenticity relates to sincerity and vulnerability, whereas on TikTok, it refers to originality and creativity.
