Este artigo explora a complexa intersecção entre política, ética, raça e representação em vídeos de violência policial. Para tanto, toma como objeto as imagens do homicídio de Harith Augustus pela polícia em Chicago, em 2018. Selecionamos dois objetos empíricos. Primeiro, a incorporação de vídeos do incidente em um grupo de reportagens das emissoras de TV ABC e CBS. O segundo objeto é a obra visual Six durations of a split second (Forensic Architecture e Invisible Institute, 2019), que mescla retórica contra-forense e técnicas do cinema documentário no combate à versão oficial. Demonstramos como as matérias de TV endossam sutilmente a narrativa policial por meio da repetição de cenas violentas, que servem também de apelo sensacionalista. Já o filme, apesar de efetivo no esforço de provar a responsabilidade do policial, enfrenta dilemas éticos ao reexibir ostensivamente imagens da morte de um homem negro, arriscando-se a gerar retraumatização e uma segunda ordem de violência.
