Abstract

Design and support are indispensable activities for the success of participants in an online course. This study was carried out in two editions of an improvement course for English teachers and it aims at understanding how such activities are constituted, reflecting on their relations to the betterment of the course offered, and pointing out ways and solutions with regard to course design and online mediation. The analysis was ruled especially by the concept of systems network from the Activity Theory (ENGESTRÖM, 1999; 2000; 2007) and by the processes and circumstances from the Transitivity System (THOMPSON, 2004). According to initial results, the activities complement each other and the designers seek for solutions focusing on the participants’ performance and not on the problems themselves.
