Abstract

Based on the theoretical precepts of Critical Applied Linguistics (Pennycook, 2006), this research analyzes the humor (Bakhtin, 2010) in English classes combined with the study of Critical Literacy (Menezes de Souza & Monte Mor, 2006). Bearing in mind the importance of social aspects addressed by humor, we will analyze the critical development of the participants while discussing such aspects. Therefore, this article proposes a re-reading of children's stories that involve social issues that are present today in our society. Thus, the activity was produced in a 9th grade English group at a public school in the city of Barra de Santo Antonio in the state of Alagoas.
