This article presents some aspects of the interaction in the foreign language classroom, pointing out the way that these elements happen and change within an online conversation as a task for Portuguese as a Second Language. We observed the following: (1) the way students alternate between metalinguistic and referential questions; (2) the way they focus on the communication event or on the linguistic code as well as (3) the place and the value of error. We discuss the implications of our findings for the students and teachers’ behavior when compared to face-to-face interaction events.Downloads
