TRANSLATION AS WORK: SOME CONSIDERATIONS
Keywords:

In this work we address the perspective of focusing the translation process by means of a category proposed by Granger (1968) in his analysis of style: “the work”. Our objective is focusing the translator’s “work”, that is, the manner by which the translator elicits form and content associations. Since all work concerning eliciting these associations involves choice, this turns to be a central question in the analysis of the translation process. In order to illustrate our approach, we have translated, from English into Portuguese, a poem written by Fernando Pessoa in 1918, whose title is “Dobre”. The “work” reveals the process of “re-production” or “re-creation” from one code into another.
