Abstract

We live in an increasingly globalized world, with a greater possibility of interrelation between different societies. We are faced with varied challenges presented by cultural multiplicity. Like Alvarez (2015), among other researchers, we believe that cultural differences can work positively, as windows through which individuals can meet, with the potential to develop a critical assessment of themselves and others. We see as fundamental the need for an education that seeks the learning of foreign languages (LE), because we understand that it can be a fundamental instrument to help this understanding of others and central element of the process of self-identification. Thus, this work is the result of a research developed in an Elementary and Middle School in São Paulo. It aims to show how the teachers of this school deal with the work of foreign language teaching, aiming to contribute to a reflection on what happens with the teaching of LE in Brazilian public schools.
