MOTIVATION AS A DETERMINING FACTOR OF TEACHING AND LEARNING OF A FOREIGN LANGUAGE

This paper presents a theoretical reflection about the motivation in the foreign language teaching-learning process and aims at showing the importance of the motivation in teaching and learning of a foreign language. On this work, we adopt the theoretical contributions of Dörnyei (2005), Gardner (2010), Hadfield and Dörnyei (2013), Lightbown and Spada (2013), Schwartz (2014), among others, in relation to motivation in the foreign language learning process. We concluded that motivation is a decisive factor of teaching and learning of a foreign language, being considered a central element in languages teaching-learning process.
