This article aims, based on a literature review, to conduct an epistemological discussion of the translational and interpretative process of the Brazilian Sign Language / Portuguese Language considering the translation competences. To this end, we conducted a bibliographic study in which it is linked to a conceptual analysis that makes it possible to describe, based on these aspects of translation competences (RODRIGUES, 2018; GONÇALVES, 2005, 2008; ALVES, 2005), lexical choices (JAKOBSON, 2003; SOUZA, 2007; GILE, 1995; MACHADO; FELTES, 2015), the translational style (BAKER, 2000; NIDA 1964; VINAY; DARBELNET, 1995, MENDES, 2012, among others). It is hoped that an epistemological discussion of this scope can help to understand the phenomenon from an research perspective.
