Abstract

Assessment in the foreign language classroom is a very controversial topic, specially the assessment of the reading comprehension. Reading is a process in which the lector engages his or her world knowledge, textual knowledge and linguistic knowledge to understand a text (Kleiman, 2004c) and it reflects on the design of tests and exams. The common practices in the classroom seem to inhibit the learner’s reading comprehension skills. Tests and exams of German, that were designed by student-teachers from the CLAC - Project at UFRJ, were analyzed according to the theoretical assumptions of Albers and Bolton (1995).
