Abstract

This paper investigated the use of cognitive and metacognitive learning strategies used by Distance Education students (DE). A total of 402 participants answered a tool for evaluation of learning strategies (Santos & Boruchovitch, 2008), adapted version for DE, consisted of 49 items. Data collection was conducted online and in person. For data analysis, were calculated the frequencies given by the participants regarding the use of cognitive and metacognitive (positive and negative) learning strategies. The presented results allowed to identify which strategies are being used by DE students. These indicators provide important educational implications in order to enable the improvement of the teaching-learning process in DE.
