Preventing violence with peace education and moral education

Abstract

It is argued that promoting the maturity of moral judgment through moral dilemma debates fosters the emergence of critical reasoning that allows the questioning of unjust situations, including direct and structural violence. Moral dilemma discussions are indicated with peace contents in different levels, such as educational, social, and international. Given that norms, values, and shared experiences in a certain culture are implied in the understanding of peace and violence phenomena, the questioning of these norms and values may lead to change in understanding them.
