The musical partnership of John Lennon and Paul McCartney, responsible for approximately 180 songs, stands out in music's history but also reflects on authorship and collaboration. The example sheds light on reflection in the academy; the undue attribution of authorship in academic works generates harmful distortions. This problem, originated by academic productivism, linked to evaluation metrics and institutional pressures, results in an artificial increase in intellectual production, generating pressure on professors. The practice of improper authorship includes ghosts, guests, gifts, and honorary authors, compromising the scientific integrity and credibility of the research. Furthermore, it undermines trust and collaboration in the scientific community, jeopardizing the careers of genuinely involved researchers. Transparent authorship guidelines and verification procedures are needed to strengthen the quality and reliability of scholarly research. Ethics in authorship are essential to maintaining academic integrity, promoting genuine collaboration, and strengthening public trust in science.
